The Risk Consultant performs safety inspections, assists with the development of safety programs, and helps clients in the safety training of their employees. This person will report to the VP of Risk Services and may work out of their home.

Duties and Responsibilities: |

- To evaluate employer operations for perils, hazards, and safety issues associated with employee’s health and disability
- Development of a formal written safety program including assisting with site-specific safety training
- To work with and communicate safety and risk recommendations and issues to senior management, employees and various insurance company representatives
- To conduct site evaluations for verification of proper workers compensation procedures, safety recommendations and claims reporting
- To evaluate and determine proper workers compensation classifications
- Coordination of all claims reporting between the employees and the company
- To conduct accident investigations and determine proximate cause and prevention method
- Develops, recommends, implements, monitors, and interprets safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and related policies such as OSHA and EPA
- Acquires, prepares, and maintains training materials such as handbooks and films; may schedule and perform or contract maintenance, testing, and inspections of various safety systems related to this position
Typical Duties
Conducts on site safety inspections at facilities or sites to identify hazards and determine compliance or possible violations of safety codes and regulations such as Uniform Building, Fire, and Electrical, Codes and local ordinances; investigates accidents, worker’s compensation claims, and safety and health complaints to determine causes and assure corrective action is taken for hazards and unsafe environmental conditions; applies hazard reduction techniques; prepares reports of violations and infractions; develops safety inspection procedures and schedules; recommends actions and techniques to prevent recurrences; monitors progress and effectiveness of corrective safety measures; may assess potential losses; may collect and evaluate safety, loss and accident data, recommend solutions or prevention strategies, and prepare management reports.
Primary Goal and Objective:
To reduce the company’s overall net cost of risk by implementing appropriate actions to reduce the frequency, severity and unpredictability of workers compensation or other insurance related claims.
The Risk Consultant is furnished with a laptop computer, facsimile machine and access to the Internet. This person will schedule their own visits, complete weekly itineraries and document each visit. This position includes development and distribution of loss information to senior management, including loss trends and projections and research and resolution of coverage issues. This position represents the company with various specialties in risk management.

Minimum Qualifications: |

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related field from a four-year college; or other four-year degree with three-five years of safety related experience and/or training. ARM, ASP or CSP designations preferred. Prior experience in PEO industry a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret professional documents. Ability to write professional letters, memos, reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees. Be able to listen effectively with the ability to understand and relay information accurately.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and percents is also required.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive to various jobsites. The employee will need to be able to tour client job-sites and facilities in order to determine the client safety awareness. The employee will need to be able to move around in tight situations and have to be able to climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
